Stepping out of isolation: Finding a way in the world.

For individuals born into high-control polygamous communities, the world outside is painted as dangerous and unforgiving. When someone finds the courage to walk away, they do not just leave a belief system, they leave behind every family connection, every friendship, and every familiar structure they have ever known.

When freedom starts from absolute zero

In closed groups like the Kingston Order or FLDS, education is severely restricted, especially for young women who are taught their sole purpose is plural marriage. Many young people leave without a state-recognized birth certificate, Social Security card, credit history, or accredited high school diploma.

Simple tasks that most people take for granted (renting an apartment, navigating public transportation, filling out a college application, or understanding health insurance) become monumental barriers. Without financial stability and a community support system, the threat of destitution is a constant reality.

We believe that the compound effect is more powerful when investing in helping even just one person become more self-sufficient outside of polygamy.

Four pillars your Giving Tuesday gift supports

Every dollar you give is matched 2-to-1 up to $2,500 to fund these essential programs.

01

Accredited Education & Trade Skills

Scholarships from GED completion to bachelor's degrees and vocational certificates. Education gives survivors the credentials to earn a living wage and build lifelong independence.

02

Emergency Transition Support

Leaving often means walking away with only the clothes on one's back. We provide emergency housing assistance, textbooks, transit passes, and food so scholars can focus on building their new lives.

03

Real-World Life Skills & Mentorship

From opening a first bank account and building credit to signing a rental lease and preparing for job interviews, our mentors walk alongside each person through the unfamiliar landscape of the modern world.

04

A Community of Belonging

Leaving closed communities often means losing one's entire family network overnight. Hope After Polygamy provides a supportive network of fellow survivors who understand the journey.

Scholars building independent lives

Every dollar matched during Giving Tuesday goes directly to individuals seeking education and independence outside of polygamous groups:
